Our primary target population includes both males and females who are re-entering society from prison. We also serve youth between the ages of 10 and 17 who are at high-risk of committing criminal offenses or going to prison (many of whom are children of a parent who was/is in prison).
Our secondary target population includes the spouses of males and females who are re-entering society and the parents of the at-risk youth.
Our Programs
Parent Services
- Educating and equipping our participants to be involved, responsible, and committed parents.
- Financial literacy, economic development, parenting skills, conflict resolution, building parent-child bonds.
Anger Management/Domestic Violence
- Helping clients recognize and cope with the frustration and stress that can lead to anger and violence.
Substance Abuse Education
- Helping clients with illegal and prescription drugs and alcohol addiction and recovery.
HIV Education
- Providing counseling, testing and referrals; arranging medical appointments and post-counseling for those who test positive.
Workforce Development
- Training participants in environmentally-friendly cleaning and maintenance competencies in preparation for national Green Technician Certification from the Green Clean Institute.
- Includes resume writing, interview training and job search/placement support.
- Particiants in this program must also participate in the Anger Management and Substance Abuse Eduction programs.
Computer Training (Women only)
- Teaching or enhancing basic computing skills to help clients access new opportunities and better manage their day-to-day needs.
Parental Support Services (for parents whose children are enrolled in Serenity's youth services)
- Giving parents of our enrolled youth guidance in supporting their child's goal and development.
Mentoring
- Ages 10 - 18
- For a certain number of hours per week, based on contract specifications
- Based on logic model
- Mentors spend time with the youth, mostly in activities outside the home
- Mentors model behavior to youth, get kids thinking about future goals (in school, career, life) and what it will take to reach them, provide guidance on attaining goals. Many mentors come from a social work background.
Tutoring
- Ages 10 - 18
- For a certain number of hours per week, based on contract specifications
- Provide guidance in math and reading to help students improve academic scores and (in most cases) to meet their individual education program goals
- Tutors have a background or training in education
Behavior Support Services/Recreational Support Services
- Providing customized assistance to help youth address specific behavioral or physical challenges (based on referring agency's/Dept of Human Services assessment results)
